Good Girls, the NBC crime comedy-drama, premiered on February 26, 2018 and concluded on July 22, 2021. Throughout its five season run, the critically acclaimed series garnered a devoted fanbase but was unfortunately cancelled last year.
The series spent four weeks in the global top ten on Netflix after the international release of its fourth season. It also climbed into the top ten after being added to Netflix US, with 24,500,000 hours watched between March 6th and March 13th.
Despite the fact that the series wasn’t one of NBC’s best-performing programs, it managed to retain a strong worldwide following, due in part to Netflix. A number of NBC series were projected to be cancelled in the 2020-21 season, with Good Girls being one of them.
Following the release of Season 4, multiple sources stated that it seemed to be a done deal that the show would receive a final, shorter Season 5, which would wrap up the plot. However, this did not turn out to be the case, and viewers may never know how the show’s tale was intended to finish. In June 2021, it was announced that the show would not be returning.
Good Girls Season 5
The series follows three women from suburban Michigan, two of whom are sisters, who are struggling to make ends meet. They’re fed up with having everything taken from them, so they plan an improbable robbery to steal money from a supermarket, only to find out that they’re in for more than they bargained for. Their successful heist draws the notice of the shop manager, who takes notice of one of the women for reasons other than the money, as well as the attention of a mafia crew that uses the supermarket as a front. The other women, now entangled in a succession of gang heists, debts, secrets, and domestic problems, gradually tumble down a road they’ve never traveled down before. This feminist series defies patriarchal expectations by demonstrating the lengths strong, independent women will go to support their families.

The fourth season came out in March 2021, and although it’s been a year since then, sadly, there has been no recent news confirming the renewal of Good Girls season 5.

The primary cast members are as follows:
- Christina Hendricks plays Elizabeth Boland, the head of the gang of moms turned criminals, whose husband cheated on her.
- Retta is Elizabeth’s closest friend and a waitress attempting to make ends meet.
- Mae Whitman will portray Annie Mark Elizabeth’s younger sister and mother.
- Reno Wilson plays Stanley, Ruby’s officer husband.
- Manny Montana portrays Christopher, a crook who falls in love with Elizabeth.
- Sara, Ruby and Stan’s daughter, is portrayed by Lidya Jewett.
- Matthew Lillard will portray Dean, Elizabeth’s husband, in the film.
- Isaiah Stannard plays Ben Marks, Annie and Gregg’s kid who comes out as a transgender male. Prior to his coming out, he was known as Sadie.
Good Girls Season 5 Renewal Status
Originally, the producers intended to continue the series with an eight-episode final season 5 planned. However, according to a report from TVLine, the decision to not renew the series was based on money, creative differences, and scheduling conflicts, with many sources claiming that “renewal hit a major snag in mid-June when negotiations with co-star Manny Montana hit a wall.” There also seemed to be issues developing between cast members Christina Hendricks and Manny Montana’s relationship, but it was finally determined that too many circumstances rendered the program unrenewable.
